Give me allll the white-theme stuff ! It’s a bit of an unorthodox recipe, but the combination of what we love in a lasagna is still there. Cheese? Check. Pasta? Check. Yummy sauce ? Check.

Ingredients

Lasagna
  • 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
  • 2 onions, minced
  • 16 lasagna pasta (oven baked, see tip)
  • 1 cup (250 g) of cream cheese
  • 2 apples, peeled and minced
  • 8 – 12 ham slices
    Replacement options

    slices of chicken or turkey

  • 2 tablespoons of poppy seeds
  • 1 cup of swiss cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup of cooking cream
    Replacement options

fresh cream, Ricotta, Mascarpone or cheese spreads

Bechamel (3 cups)
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups of milk
  • 1 cup of swiss cheese, shredded
    Replacement options

    Mozzarella or Cheddar

  • Salt & pepper, as preferred

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°Fand place the rack at the centre of it.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a pot over low heat then cook the onions for 10 minutes. Transfer into a bowl then set aside.
  3. In that same pot, melt the butter then add the flour and cook for 5 minutes while constantly stirring with a wooden spoon. Add the milk in a drizzle, while stirring then bake for 10 more minutes over medium heat to thicken the mix. Remove from heat and add the cheese. Stir the béchamel until well-combined. Season then set aside.
  4. Lay the dry pasta onto your work surface, add cream cheese to each piece.
  5. Grease a lasagna pan and assemble the lasagna in it, following this order: béchamel, pasta, onion, apple, ham slices and poppy seeds. Repeat until there are no more ingredients left. The only rule is to start with the béchamel and finish with it as well.
  6. Cover the top with shredded cheese and pour the cream onto the lasagna. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes, or until the pasta is cooked through. If the lasagna dries up a bit, simply add more cream or try covering the pan with aluminum foil (make sure it doesn’t touch the cheese though.)
  7. Finish off the baking under broil for 10 minutes, sprinkle a few poppy seeds when finished and serve.

Tips & tricks

– You can also make this recipe using regular lasagna pasta, but it will add a step to it. You’ll have to cook the pasta while following the instructions on the box before putting the lasagna together.
