I prefer a meal at home with friends over going to a restaurant, because I find evenings in nicer and more personal.

When I’m invited to someone else’s home, I always try to find a hostess gift that breaks away from the traditional bottle of wine or Cucina soap. It’s no easy task.

I started making little gourmet gifts myself and people loved them. So, here’s a recipe that will delight hosts and guests alike. Be warned, though: the box will end up empty before the night is done.

  • 3/4 cup hazelnuts

  1. In a double boiler, melt the chocolate, cream, and butter. Add a pinch of salt. Pour onto a plate and refrigerate for 2 hours.
  2. Meanwhile, powder the hazelnuts in a food processor. Transfer onto a plate and set aside.
  3. Shape truffles (roughly 1 tablespoon) and roll in the hazelnut powder. Refrigerate for 1 hour and serve.
