Ingredients

  • 1 cup of chopped prunes
  • 1 cup of warm water
  • 3 lb of ribs, cut in pieces (2-3 ribs per piece)
  • 1 (596 ml) can of crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cups of beef broth
  • 1 cup of hoisin sauce
  • 1/2 cup of brown sugar
  • 3 star anise
  • 4 garlic cloves, peeled & crushed
  • A cube of ginger, about 1 cm wide, peeled
  • A cinnamon stick
  • Salt & pepper, as preferred

Steps

  1. Add chopped prunes to the cup of warm water and let sit for 10 minutes.
  2. Pour the prunes into the crock pot, then add the remaining ingredients. Coat the ribs with the sauce entirely.
  3. Cover and cook over low heat for 6 to 8 hours.
  4. Remove the ribs, then reduce the sauce over high heat for 10 to 12 minutes, or until it thickens.
